On November 22, 2015 the Heroes Of Zorra committee held a Spelling Bee for all elementary school students across the Township Of Zorra at the Royal Canadian Legion in Embro. The words given to the students were all to be found on the Heroes Of Zorra web site. Two divisions were offered - Grade 5 and under and Grades 6, 7, 8. The winner in each division received $100 and the runner-up $75. Every contestant was presented with a Heroes Of Zorra medal by committee member Doris McCall.

Eight young people signed up for this first ever event. Each and every one was a winner. Parents, grandparents and friends were so proud of their efforts. In the Grade 5 and under division Finn Stewart was the winner with Lannin Schurman the runner-up. Grades 6, 7 & 8 division was won by Sydney Turvey and the runner up was Katie Schurman. Very special recognition to Ava Wilks, Nathan Bean, Ryan Vandersar and Jacob Vandersar who also participated. The committee was pleased to have the Zorra Highland Park Public School Grade 8 Camp Celtic fundraising group on hand to provide beverages and snacks (a little fundraiser for them). Our appreciation is extended towards the members of the Embro Legion for providing the venue in which to hold this event and John Hiuser for providing the audio equipment.

Our Bee Master (that is the person who gives the word to the students and uses that word in a sentence) was very capably handled by Scott Naisbit. Our Judges were Mayor Margaret Lupton and Roy Youngs and the Timekeepers were Shirley Zilke and John Milner. MC for the event was Shirley McCall-Hanlon. The enthusiastic community spirit demonstrated at this event was once again exemplary within the Township Of Zorra.
